Adding Fall Details

It’s finally feeling like Fall, and I can’t help but think about all the fun details in a home that showcase the feeling of warm, cozy, family-friendly and inviting. I’ll be honest, I actually decorated my home for Fall a month ago. I was tired of the table I used all Summer and it was time for a change. This year, I used all my old decorations and re-arranged them in a new way, so I haven’t actually bought anything new.

Here’s a few ideas I have on making your home seem more “Fall”

  1. Add a Fall welcome mat at the front door, I found a great one on Amazon linked below. I bought two mats, one buffalo check to put under the mat and the other “hello” mat to put on top.

  2. Think about using just colors, it doesn’t have to scream or say the words “Fall”, I added oranges in between my skull heads on my fruit tower and that sent the message of Fall with the colors. Plus my daughter loves oranges, so it was nice to have them stocked in our house.

  3. a Fall candle! it doesn’t get more Fall than pumpkin spice burning in the kitchen. Bath & Body Works is a great place to start.

  4. Pumpkin treats in a cake dome on the counter.

  5. Lanterns are a great idea to decorate for all seasons! I’ve had my big lanterns now almost 4 years and I love putting them in different places around the house and decorating.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas to get going! Please message me if you need any help!

Selecting the Right Finishes

Selecting the right finishes can be difficult and overwhelming, especially when you know you are likely to have them in your house for 5+ years. I have some tips and suggestions to overcome this struggle.

  • Research, Research, Research - everything is accessible on the internet these days, which makes it easy to get ideas. Who even buys a home magazine from Home Depot anymore?

  • Put together vision boards, or take pictures to see "The whole picture". You make selections at different times throughout the remodel or home-building process. I recommend you keep pictures handy on your phone to reference often. I prefer that you keep samples in your car when driving around to different places. Tile, granite, backsplash, paint, furniture, decor, accents, layout, etc are all equally important. I kept pictures of our blueprints and would sketch in the furniture to visualize the layout.

  • Style quiz online is VERY helpful - that will get you started knowing what’s your style

Hopefully these tips are helpful, and I can help you during any part of the design process if you need.
